WALKING TRAILS

The unique layout of Belvidere Estate allows for multiple walking routes, linking lush parkland areas with the charming country lanes of Old Belvidere. Hiking clubs frequently visit the area, drawn to the estate’s picturesque trails and the serene views across the Knysna Lagoon.

One of the most popular routes, Rutherford Walk, is a 4km trail beginning at the jetty, winding through indigenous trees and shrubs, with stunning glimpses of Knysna across the lagoon.

Belvidere Estate is also a haven for dog walkers, with well-maintained paths, waste bag dispensers, and an environment that encourages responsible pet ownership. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the daily opportunity to explore the estate’s peaceful surroundings with their four-legged companions.

Beyond the walking trails, the estate is teeming with natural beauty and biodiversity. The gardens, rich in fynbos and indigenous flora, attract a wide variety of birds, butterflies, and small wildlife, including the charming Knysna dwarf chameleon. The iconic Knysna turaco is often spotted among the trees, while at night, bushpigs and porcupines make their way through the estate. There have even been occasional sightings of caracal (rooikat), likely drawn by the resident guinea fowl.
